All are invited!
The Just MarketPlace Ministry is pleased to invite you to St. John Neumann's 15th annual Fair & Ethical Trade Sale on Saturday, November 6 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The fair trade organizations represented at the sale provide a fair wage to workers in developing countries and disadvantaged regions. This fair wage enables families to get out of poverty. Specifically, the fair wage enables families to access educational opportunities for their children, clean water, adequate food, basic housing, job training, and medical professionals.
As Catholics and disciples of Christ, when we contribute to fair trade, we encounter Jesus by performing a corporal work of mercy and in a special way become instruments of God. We also acknowledge the inherent dignity of the people who perform this work as being created in the image and likeness of God. At the same time, supporting artisans and farmers in this manner provides them with opportunities to encounter Jesus and experience change in their lives through their work. In between the annual Fair & Ethical Trade Sales at SJN, there are many ways to participate in fair trade and support our brothers and sisters around the world.
Fairly traded coffee from San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala can be purchased through SJN parishioners. Fairly traded chocolate, tea, bananas, and avocados are available at Valley Natural Foods in Burnsville, as well as other Twin Cities-area food cooperatives. Finally, each fair trade organization at the sale has a storefront or online store we can visit. We invite you to attend our sale and learn more about the farmers and artisans who produce our food, household items, and the gifts we share with others. Consider inviting others to participate in God's work by supporting disadvantaged workers with just and fair wages.
Thank you for your support!
Kristen King, Fair Trade Ministry Member.
