About this Event

Any idea how many times CCTV cameras spotted you today? Do you know if they were operating with Facial Recognition Technology?

From riding the bus to police monitoring, surveillance is happening in ways we’ve never experienced before. On average, your image will be captured 100 times a day in a European capital city like Dublin. And that number is on the rise as people, police services, and private companies start to use CCTV cameras for safety and security.

Join an interactive #DiscussAI Think-In on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT). Does FRT impact your daily life? Should we be concerned about where this technology is headed?
DiscussAI Think-Ins are open discussion forums where everyone— from citizens to researchers, and industry experts—can openly discuss the evolving role of AI in our future.

Through engaging discussion scenarios, we’ll weigh up the potential benefits and challenges of FRT for both individuals and society. Together, we’ll explore how we can ensure FRT technology is used in a safe and ethical way for everyone’s benefit.

is an Assistant Professor in the School of Law and Criminology in Maynooth University. Ciara's ongoing research explores the adoption and use of surveillance technologies in Canada and Ireland by policing and public safety agencies. Dr Emma Clarke is Engaged Research Lead at the ADAPT Research Centre. Through #DiscussAI initiatives, ADAPT engages individuals and communities across Ireland in conversations that raise and answer questions on AI, and explores its impact on our lives and society
