The Bandy Heritage Center, Creative Arts Guild, and Prater’s Mill Foundation are proud to partner with Jayme Laney of Laney Pottery to present a Face Jug Workshop! Many people are familiar with the distinctive folk pottery tradition of face jugs, which have been made in North Georgia for nearly two centuries. The face jug workshop will provide students with the opportunity to participate in this historic North Georgia folk pottery tradition by gaining hands-on experience sculpting a unique face of their choice onto a clay jug. This class is a morning session which will last two and a half hours total. Each student will be given a large stoneware clay mug and additional clay, and using a clay sculpting tools, shown how to sculpt a face onto the mug. Each student will have the opportunity to create a face mug, which will be fired in a kiln by their instructor after the workshop and mailed to their address. All necessary equipment and supplies will be provided by the instructor.
This class is suitable for ages thirteen and up; students under eighteen must have an accompanying adult present at all times. No prior knowledge of or experience with pottery making is necessary. A coffee and donuts brunch will be provided during the workshop
