Learn how to make these gorgeous drawstring bags! They are perfect as gifts or reusable gift bags for those special presents.During the workshop, you will make one origami bag from two fat quarters of fabric. Learning how to cut out, fold and sew two fabric squares into this bag will enable you to make more at home in whatever size you wish. Choose to do away with all that paper wrap at Christmas & birthdays!
Materials are not necessarily (but can be) provided in the workshop. This was a deliberate decision on our part so that you can choose exactly the colours and patterns you so desire.
Materials you need to purchase before the workshop:
Two fat quarters of patchwork weight cotton - one in a patterned fabric and one in a plain colour that either coordinates or contrasts with your patterned one. Try to avoid directional patterns so that one side of your bag’s pattern is not upside down.
1.5m of ribbon that matches the fabric, width between 1cm and 1.5cm
N.B. The fabric used for the demo bags was sourced locally from The Fabric Shop Melrose. There is also the equally fantastic Wonky Giraffe in Kelso. They both have vast selections of fabrics and ribbons, which are perfect for these bags. The staff in both are brilliant at offering suggestions and supporting you to choose exactly what you want.
If you are not able to source your own fabrics, we do have a limited selection here and you will be able to choose on the day. These will cost £7, including ribbon.
Bring a packed lunch.
