About this Event
Participating children will take part in a variety of workshops throughout the day (11:00 - 3:20pm). This taster sessions will include Tin Whistle, Celtic Harp (Clàrsach), Fiddle, Gaelic Singing and Drama / Games. These workshops will be suitable for children with no prior experience (as well as those who come with a bit of musical skill!) The sessions will be delivered in Gaelic as far as possible. Non-Gaelic speaking children are also very welcome to attend and will be supported in following instructions (and having fun whilst learning a new language!).
Registration will be at 10:45am.
Each session will last 45 minutes (with the exception of Clàrsach and Fiddle, for which the group will be split in half for 20minutes of each instrument).
Children should come prepared with a packed lunch. Lunch will be at 12:55pm - 1:40pm.
Please note that children will not be permitted to use mobile phones during workshops and these should be on silent at these times.
Participating children are expected to stay on campus in the cafe area during this time (or parents should inform Anna Wilson, the event organiser, if their child has permission to leave during this time - [email protected], or in person during registration).
There will be no more than 10 children in this high school aged group for most of the workshops. There will be a designated adult to escort them from workshop to workshop as a group, and workshop rooms will be well signposted. Parents/carers are welcome to stay on Campus if they wish, but will not be able to attend the workshops with their children (though they could attend the adult workshops if they get a ticket!). There is a cafe area in the main entranceway for anyone choosing to hang around, though parents/carers are welcome to leave (as long as we can contact you via mobile to return if needed). Parents will be contacted if a child is missing from a workshop.
After the workshops, families are invited to attend a coffee afternoon at Forfar Guide Centre (4mins away via car at Myre Car Park, Forfar, DD8 1AZ). There will be no entrance fee or set prices for a cuppy and cake but donations will be welcome to help fund this event (and hopefully future events too!). Anyone who attended workshops (and those who order in Gaelic!) can get their refreshment for free! We hope to have some music (and maybe a bit of a singalong?!) while we are there. Donations of baking would be most appreciated for this event and can be dropped of during registration, or at the coffee afternoon.
This event has been made possible with funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig. It has been organised by Comann nam Pàrant Aonghais (Angus's Gaelic Parent Association) and Comhairle Aonghais (Angus Council), with support from Fèisean nan Gàidheal.
