Eye & Awe is a photography exhibition that seeks to share the photographer's sense of wonder with Dja Dja Wurrung Country. It embodies a practice of slow, mindful immersions, with a camera in hand.
Shane Carey, known as "The Sensitive Shutter," grew up on Wadawurrung Country, in Ballarat. His mum gave him a disposable camera to take to a primary school camp, which began his photography journey. Shane always loved being in the bush with his family as a child. He continues to value time among the trees with his family, and by himself.
Shane’s photography evokes a sense of tranquillity, suggesting intimate moments that celebrate nature. His attention to light, composition, and detail reflects an artistic direction that values aesthetics while maintaining a deep respect for the subject matter. Photographing both the grandeur and intricacies of landscapes, highlights his appreciation for the relationships that exist within ecosystems. Overall, his work conveys a message of mindfulness; encouraging viewers to appreciate the world around them and consider their own place within it.
