Set in 1976, fourteen year-old Vivian Abramowitz (Natasha Lyonne) lives in the outskirts of Beverly Hills with her single, divorced father Murray (Alan Arkin) and her two younger brothers. Dedicated to ensuring his kids have a stellar education even if they struggle to keep the bills paid, Murray frequently moves the family to ensure they remain in the 90210.
