About this Event

Expressions in Spice: A Writing & Spice Blending Workshop

Join us for an evening where words and flavor intertwine! Expressions in Spice is a unique workshop that invites you to explore the art of storytelling through both language and taste. Guided by Curio Spice Co. founder Claire Cheney and Quinobequin founder Abbey Cahill, you’ll discover how sensory experience can unlock creativity on the page and in the kitchen.

We’ll begin with a writing session inspired by scent and memory, drawing from a curated collection of spices to spark imagination. Then, you’ll roll up your sleeves for a hands-on blending experience, crafting your own custom spice blend that reflects your story and palate.

Each participant will leave with:

  • A copy of the Fall edition of Quinobequin Review, a hyper-local, print-only journal of poetry and prose inspired by place and experience.
  • A jar of your own signature spice blend, created during the workshop.
  • New tools for weaving sensory awareness into your writing and everyday life.

This workshop is perfect for writers, cooks, and anyone curious about how creativity blossoms at the intersection of art and flavor. Come ready to write, taste, and share in a space that celebrates curiosity and community.
Light snacks and drinks will be served.
About the journal:
(kwin-OH-buh-kin) is the first known name for the Charles River. For thousands of years, the Massachusett, Wampanoag, and Nipmuc peoples have lived in relationship with this land. “Quinobequin” means something close to “meandering” in the Massachusset language and is an acknowledgement to these first and ongoing caretakers.
