The session will explore larger format (A2) charcoal, pencil and graphite expressionist portraits, using participants own source photographs. The workshop will include at least two demonstration works, that Mike will develop whilst participants experiment with materials, and techniques to build expressionism into their images. This will include; collage; lettering; resistant materials, cutting, scratching and scouring the paper platform, adding washes and blending graphite powder, different grades of charcoal, pencil and liquid pencil. We will be exploring expression rather than likeness and will aim to be loose and free with our mark making.instagram.com/mikewaldronart
