Visit Oak Park River Forest Museum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, to explore your COVID-19 pandemic memories. Author Michele Weldon will discuss Michele Weldon will discuss her book, “The Time We Have: Essays on Pandemic Living” and audience members will be able to share their most surprising memories of the pandemic. Books will be available for purchase and to be signed by the author.Also, portraits by Rossie Schwartz, a photographer specializing in documentary-style family portraits and nature photography, will be on display. Schwartz inspired by the ways her community came together during the early days of the COVID-19 lockdown, supporting one another in both big and small ways. In response, she offered Porch Portraits — photographing families on their doorsteps in exchange for a promise to pay it forward. In just one month, she captured nearly 250 families.
Now, five years later, these portraits serve as a powerful reminder of the bittersweet paradox of struggle and togetherness that defined that time.
