About this Event

Does your home have a grand library shipped over from a 1600s Italian ducal palace? Or how about furniture and artwork that has a connection with the Vanderbilt family? If it doesn't, then now's your chance to see these incredible pieces for yourself inside one of New York City's best preserved Gilded Age mansions.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive tour through the former Edith Fabbri House, now known as the House of the Redeemer, which served as the town residence of Edith Shepard Fabbri, a great-granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt.

Led by a House of the Redeemer staff member, our unique experience of this Upper East Side mansion will include:

  • An overview of the 1916 Gilded Age mansion designed by American architect Grosvenor Atterbury, noted for the 1908 restoration of New York’s City Hall
  • A visit to the mansion's historic rooms, including the dining room, chapel, kitchen, parlor, and grand library
  • Stories around Edith Shepard Fabbri and her husband Ernesto Fabbri, and why the house, artwork, and furnishings were all donated in 1949 to the Episcopal Church of New York
  • A closer examination of the immaculate Grand Library, which originated from a 1600s ducal palace in Urbino, Italy, and how it was transported in two ships through U-boat infested waters during World War I
  • A look at the original furniture, art, and decor in the House of the Redeemer, which has been perfectly preserved

See you there!

*Please bring a water bottle as the mansion does not have air conditioning

**This experience is conducted on the first two floors of the house — an elevator is available if needed
