Learners will explore new and emerging technologies and how they have influenced business operations and are used to meet business needs.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1.  Know about new and emerging digital technologies.
  2.  Understand how new and emerging digital technologies are used.

Indicative Content: Exploring New and Emerging Digital Technologies

Learning Outcome 1: 

  • Current and emerging digital technologies: mobile technology, intelligent computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud technology and how different industries such as retail, banking, entertainment use them to meet business objectives.
  • Internet of Things (IoT): connecting devices over the internet, consumer usage, enterprise deployment, online connectivity, radio-frequency identification (RFID), near field communication (NFC), development of wearable technology (smart 
  • watches, smart glasses, smart technologies).  Applications for current and emerging digital technologies:
  • Lifestyle and health: wearable technology, mobile devices, hoverboards, ebikes, driverless cars and trains, medical diagnosis/procedures.
  • Communication: 5G networks, increasing bandwidth, biometric recognition, serverless computing, blockchain, SD WAN (software-defined networking), internet protocols (IPv6).
  • Cloud technology: Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Data as a Service (DaaS).
  • Artificial intelligence: smart devices, robots (used in the motor/manufacturing industry, retail, telehealth), artificial neural networks used in the finance industry to detect fraud.
  • Virtual reality (VR): use of gaming technology in medicine, car and construction industry, aviation.
  • Augmented reality (AR): retail, medical, education, gaming.
  • Augmented analytics for business intelligence/applications.
  • 3D and 4D printing for home and business.
  • Use of drones: military, surveillance, weather, pilot school, agriculture, network rail  (field maintenance).
  • Use of social media and vlogs in organisations.

Learning Outcome 2:

  • Business objectives: marketing, data capture and analysis, staff monitoring and support, customer support and service, product improvement, communicate/collaborate.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

  • Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield 
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
  • Greater London
  • Greater Manchester
  • Liverpool City Region
  • Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland
  • Tees Valley
  • West of England
  • West Midlands
  • West Yorkshire

1) FREE - if you earn less than £20,319 gross salary or are on a means-tested benefit.

2) PAYMENT HELP AVAILABLE - if you earn more than £20,319 (annual gross salary) but are on a low-income, we might be able to help pay part or all of your course fees. Email: [email protected] for an application form or if you have any questions.

3) CO-FUNDED - if you are on a higher-income, the government will pay approximately half of your course fees.
