Join Calgary calligrapher Kerri Forster and hone your calligraphy skills using the folded pen.
About this Event

YWCA-- Our entrance is the NORTH DOOR on 124th St., not the main entrance on the corner. There is some free street parking in the area and 3 parking lots are within a block or two of the YWCA. Come learn all about the wonderful folded pen - its versatility makes for endless possibilities and discoveries to enhance your calligraphy skills.Along with various lettering styles we'll cover how to adjust and maintain it and which mediums to use.

Supplies

Folded pen - examples pictured (see below). If you don't have a folded pen, Kerri will bring some for you to purchase ($40)

IMPORTANT: if you need to purchase a folded pen, please contact [email protected] as soon as possible to let us know you wish to buy one so we can let Kerri know how many we need. They are not available in Edmonton. Kerri will bring some of the type she uses from Kensington Art in Calgary so you can experience a positive result with your lettering.

Ink - Walnut ink, or Sumi ( Moon Palace Sumi preferred ) Bleed proof White ( Dr P H Martin - ONLY if you already have some )

Paper - Layout bond or similar that takes wet medium well without bleeding. Also finger paint paper, which is glossy and takes wet as well..11 x 14 minimum size paper please , very important as 8 1/2 x 11 is just too small to work on. (Gail found large fingerpaint paper pads at Michael's.)

Jars - small 1 oz size for your ink ( you'll need this size to dip into ), and a larger wide mouth jar to clean your pen with a toothbrush.

Old Toothbrush/Paper towel/kleenex or ragsPencil , note pad

Cash for small assortment of suppplies I will bring if needed .

Kerri is trying to give you as much instruction time as possible (She usually does a 2-day workshop.), so asks that we only take a 30 min. lunch break. Please remember to bring your lunch and water bottle.
