Itโ€™s well documented that playing sports provides many benefits for children, including improved physical and mental health, reduced stress and anxiety, and improved self-esteem and confidence.
But what to do when you donโ€™t have access to team sports? How about tennis!
Participating in Blind Tennis can build a strong sense of community and create a welcoming environment for kids with blindness and low vision, allowing them to participate in adaptive recreation with a sport that allows for family participation, at home as well as on the courts. The event will also:
๐ŸŽพ Encourage adaptive skill acquisition through a sport the whole family can participate in.
๐ŸŽพ Build self-confidence and resilience through a community activity.
๐ŸŽพ Inspire goal setting skills for becoming better players that can be applied to future educational and employment challenges.
๐ŸŽพ Share opportunities to play tennis in Washington State.
This United States Blind Tennis Association (USBTA) supported training workshop will introduce families to Blind Tennis and provide children with training and practice in the sport. Activities will include a professional coaching clinic and training camp. Youth will learn from experienced coaches building skills and confidence.
The weekend will end with a tournament, where participants can earn points in the national rankings.
The USBTA is working to make tennis accessible to all Blind and Low Vision athletes across the United States, unlocking personal growth, athletic achievement, and lifelong connections. Learn more about the USBTA and Blind tennis online(opens in a new window).
