About this Event
Welcome to "Explore Hannibal Square Walking Tour" with Community Historian Barbara Chandler!
Calling our 50+ community to join us on a guided walking tour and learn the rich history of Winter Park's African American community located west of downtown Park Avenue.
Winter Park is known for its beautiful homes, tree-lined and canopied streets, fine arts museums and upscale shopping districts and restaurants all along Park Avenue.
Just three blocks away, west of the railroad tracks is Winter Park's hidden treasure - affectionately known as "Westside" Winter Park.
Westside Winter Park is the Historic African American community with a resilient and vibrant history of the people and permanent landmarks and institutions.
Visitors will experience a sense of community pride - when stopping by the local Churches, artistic murals of the neighborhood and a monument dedicated to the Pioneers Gus Henderson, Walter B. Simpson, Frank Israel and Mary Lee DePugh.
The tour will begin in Shady Park under the pavilion and is within a one-mile radius. Comfortable shoes are suggested. The tour is approximately 1.5 hours and will conclude back at Shady Park. Public parking is available across the street.
