Explore Glenthorne Farm, now within the Glenthorne National Park. Glenthorne Farm is a 206 hectare property of historic significance.
The land was taken up by Major Thomas O'Halloran in 1838 and he named it Lizard Lodge.
In 1879 the property passed to the Porter Family and they renamed it Glenthorne and built the mansion of the same name. Glenthorne remained in private hands until purchased by the Australian Army in 1913 for the No.9 Remount Depot: it then passed to the CSIRO in 1947 for use as a field station.
This 2.5 hour walking tour commences with an introduction to the history of Glenthorne Farm and its transformation into a hub for the new Glenthorne National Park, followed by a tour of the heritage precinct and inspection of the revegetation areas and redevelopment plans.
