For winter 2024-2025 I have decided to set up a series of local events to explore waters that are in our own backyard. If you haven’t paddled any of these places and are curious about what is close by for paddling, bring your paddleboard, kayak, or canoe and join us for a few hours….This week we’ll explore Hickory Creek and paddle up to Old Alton Bridge (a.k.a. Goatman’s Bridge). I have paddled this route in late summer and immediately recognized that it would be a great paddle with fall color. We’ll start at Pilot Knoll Park and paddle on Lake Lewisville until we reach the creek. There are a handful of small sandy beaches along the way for us to take breaks on. Our journey will take us upstream in Hickory Creek to at least the bridge, we may continue on if time allows – the creek is very scenic and it would be great to explore more!
Winter kayaking is hit-or-miss, if the weather is uncooperative we’ll postpone this to sometime early in 2025. It is everyone’s responsibility to know their skill level and participate in events that match your abilities. If you have any questions about the skills required for the event, please reach out to me and I’ll be happy to clarify for you.
More information to come…..
