For winter 2024-2025 I have decided to set up a series of local events to explore waters that are in our own backyard. If you haven’t paddled any of these places and are curious about what is close by for paddling, bring your paddleboard, kayak, or canoe and join us for a few hours….This week we’ll explore Denton Creek, and hope to catch the cottonwood trees in their glorious golden yellow color! Last year I was a month early on guessing fall color, so I learned and noted it later for this year’s color. The boat ramp at Trophy Club Park makes for easy put in and take out, so this should be an easier trip in the cooler weather. Note that though the boat ramp is on Denton Creek, for some reason it referred to as the Marshall Creek Boat Ramp.
We’ll paddle upstream to the 377 bridge to enjoy the fall show. If the water level allows, we’ll paddle further upstream and hopefully find some fossils! There is a railroad tressle that runs next to the highway, and it’s always a treat to have a train come rolling through while we’re on the water.
Winter kayaking is hit-or-miss, if the weather is uncooperative we’ll postpone this to sometime early in 2025. It is everyone’s responsibility to know their skill level and participate in events that match your abilities. If you have any questions about the skills required for the event, please reach out to me and I’ll be happy to clarify for you.
More information to come…..
