For winter 2024-2025 I have decided to set up a series of local events to explore waters that are in our own backyard. If you haven’t paddled any of these places and are curious about what is close by for paddling, bring your paddleboard, kayak, or canoe and join us for a few hours….We’ve made it through the winter……almost. Superbowl is over, Valentine’s Day is over, you’re sick of being together and sick of being in the house and sick of not enjoying the warm sun. Screw it, let’s go kayaking!!! If you have never paddled Benbrook Lake, you need to start exploring this one. We'll launch from Mustang Park on Benbrook Lake, the address is the location in this post. It’s a really nice lake….and seems to never really have a ton of boat traffic. My experience out here is that it is very paddle-friendly. One of the attractions here is Bear Creek, probably the most lush of the creeks available to paddle on this lake. We paddled this in mid-summer, and upstream past the bridges we found a very clean-water swimming hole with a big gravel bar to hang out at. So, this creek as a local destination may be attractive to some of you in the summer months. Come out and see it so you can plan those summer paddles again when brighter days arrive!
Winter kayaking is hit-or-miss, if the weather is uncooperative, we’ll postpone this to sometime later in 2025. It is everyone’s responsibility to know their skill level and participate in events that match your abilities.
