About this Event
Purpose of Meeting:
To explore the idea of creating a grower ran and led cooperative to strengthen the agricultural industry in our area. We have lost almost 9,000 acres of crop land in Horry County alone to development since 2020. Everyone loves traditional row crop agriculture, but the only way it makes a living is by farming lots of acres. Low profit margins and more more acres mean more risk. We have a unique situation in our area because of the following: 1) We still have plenty of farmland, 2) We have more local consumer than we've ever had, and 3) There's not much that we can't grow in our climate and soils. We can grow more profitable crops in this area, and if we do, maybe we can perserve farmland and keed the agriculture industry alive.
