About this Event
Experience the lovely colors of fall in this unique forest and learn about the restoration project that is underway. Donegal Highlands Nature Preserve is a keystone parcel of the lowest southern foothill of the PA Highlands and serves as a predominant wildlife corridor between Hellam Hills in York County and the Susquehanna River to the Furnace Hills in Lebanon County. Come explore this second-growth mixed hardwood forest!
What to Expect: This hike will be a 2.5-mile loop. Terrain may contain rocks and roots. Be prepared for a small water crossing. While this trail is not flat, there are no extreme elevation gains. There is a port-a-john available at the parking area. This hike is recommended for ages 10 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).
Where to Meet: Parking is at the Old Trolley Line Park. We will meet at far east end of parking lot and then cross the road into the preserve together.
What to Bring: Dress for the weather. Bring drinking water and a snack. Binoculars and hiking poles optional.
Event Leader: Interpretive Ranger Rachel Haynes loves discovering new places and basking in the lush glens tucked along the Susquehanna River.
Animal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home.
