Right now, gassy coal mines in our region, including Metropolitan, Dendrobium, Appin and Tahmoor are quietly leaking vast amounts of toxic methane, one of the most dangerous climate pollutants. Even worse, these emissions are likely being significantly underreported. This means our region plays a pivotal role in determining whether NSW meets its climate targets or causes them to fall further behind. Expert forum Illawarra Coal Mine Methane and the Climate Crisis where we’ll learn about the methane problem, present the latest data and discuss the actions we can take to push for stronger policies.
