About this Event
How does the queer night work? / Which night should I go to?
On queer nights pairing happens with no regard for gender; you get an encounter with every other person in the room. Trans, nonbinary and GNC folks are welcome and encouraged to attend! On straight(ish) nights participants will be asked upon registration to sign up for either the men’s or the women’s roster; men will be paired with women and vice versa.
What do you mean by “experiments”?
Let’s just say you might find yourself inside a scripted conversation. You might find yourself inside a conversation and not know whether it’s scripted or not. Or you might find yourself sitting in silence with someone. You don’t have to be outgoing or funny; this isn’t about performance. In fact this structure is intended to help drop the usual performance of self, and potentially find something true inside of a familiar formula.
I’m sober!
Vesper has many NA beverage options, from tea and soda to NA beer and wine. While we are hosting this at a wine bar, it’s not a drinking-centered event. Come for the romance, stay for the cheese plate and Casamara Club!
Does this event have an age bracket?
For now, no. This ain’t the apps, baby! Come with an open mind and see what happens. This is the beginning of what we hope will become a regular series; as it grows we may program more age-specific events.
Who is running this?
Meet your host: Addie is a playwright and ensemble theater maker, a part-time bartender, and a queer femme with good eye contact and unreliable small talk skills. She has years of experience facilitating safe and intimate spaces for exploration in the rehearsal room and the classroom. She is fairly new to Detroit, but you can find her on the internet at www.addieulrey.com or behind the bar at Vesper.
