About this Event
An exciting course exploring mark making, colour, texture and composition. Emily will help you to approach the medium of watercolour in different ways through playful exercises. This will give you a new range of starting points to take your work forward in class and develop future projects. You will learn new techniques, enjoy, experiment and have fun with this versatile medium.
This course is suitable for beginners as well as students who are working at an intermediate level.
Materials
Some watercolour paints and paper will be provided at the start of the course but students will need to buy their own later on. You may want to invest in the following:
- Watercolour paints e.g. Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolour student tube set or a box (approx £15)
- Watercolour paper e.g. Cass Art 150-300g / Daler Rowney Aquafine watercolour jumbo pad 300gms (£12 - £20)
- Brushes x 2: one soft round size 8-10, one Daler Rowney Aquafine watercolour artist brush, size 6, 8 or 10, round (£3.50 each)
You will need to bring a sketch book and pencil, masking tape and kitchen towel.

Emily Jolley is a trained painter having gained a degree in Fine Art at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle . She has been running art classes and workshops for many years in Brighton, Portsmouth and Greece. Her work was selected in The Sunday Times watercolour competition to be shown at the Mall, London. Emily's practice is based at her studio in Phoenix Art Space.
