Participants in the workshop will be led through a walk within the area to gather flora and debris that speak to the specific landscape of the area. We will then bring them back to the workspace to make paper that maps the neighbourhood, considering theories of walking methodologies and alternative cartographies that foster conversations around anti-colonial ways of mapping.
About GroundersGrounders:
GroundersGrounders is an arts collective centering experimental interaction design made up of Sid Drmay and Shalaka Jadhav, delivering community-engaged workshops as an extension of their social practices. These workshops, including experimental papermaking and diy hydrophone/river listening parties, bridge the natural world and the technological world, rather than imposing binaries that isolate their interconnectedness with one another, and instead, lean into how we mediate across these “worlds”. Sid (@cyborggarbage) and Shalaka (@shalaks_j) are two of four founding members of Dirty Work Studio (@dirtyworkstudio), a Waterloo Region-based community risograph print studio.

This workshop is part of Rock Paper Scissors, a weekend devoted to small-scale publishing and the social life of the book. This year, local zinesters, printmakers, artists, poets, and publishers from across Ontario and further afield will join us for a print media lover’s dream. Peruse hand-made and locally published books and print media, and support small book makers, artists, and publishers on February 22 from 11 am to 4 pm.
The workshop space is on the ground level of the Boarding House Arts building. The washrooms are not wheelchair accessible. We encourage vendors and guests to stay home if they feel unwell. Please reduce the use of scented products (e.g. perfume, cologne) for this event.
