Poetry is about inner-observation and self-attunement. It’s to let one’s essence resonate with the most powerful of frequencies: love, truth, beauty, and authenticity, which may activate remembrance in both the poet and her readers something mystical, empowering one to break through the mundane and burst into true aliveness.Purple Parea Poetry presents an experiential poetry appreciation event at the Attic Room of MaybeItsFate Art Club on Saturday, Sept 20th, starting at 2:30 pm.
Deirdre Mikolajcik will be a featured poet. Deirdre is a recovering academic who received her Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Kentucky. Her work has been published in Mikrokosmos, Victorian Review, Literature Compass, Palgrave Encyclopedia of Victorian Women’s Writing, and The Fortnightly Review. Originally from upstate New York, she currently resides in Louisville, KY where she spends most of her time enjoying Lord Byron, bourbon, bicycling, and other alliterative activities.
Deirdre is one of the most talented members in our writing group at MaybeItsFate. And I look forward to learn about Deirdre's poetry.
Karen Neuberg will present via Zoom as a featured poet. Karen is the author of the full-length poetry collection, PURSUIT (Kelsay Press), and three chapbooks including “the elephants are asking” (Glass Lyre). Her poetry and collages have appeared in numerous online and print journals and anthologies including 805, Glassworks, Inflectionist Review, Mackinaw, Nixes Mate, and Unbroken. She holds an MFA from The New School and is associate editor of the online poetry journal First Literary Review-East.
Karen and I are part of the Brevitas poets' community and Karen has been one of my favorite poets at Brevitas.
Misha Feigin will be a featured poet. Misha won the Thomas Merton Prize for Poetry in 2000. His books include "Searching for Irina", "Abraham's Bagel", "Skippers in Training", "Cloud Letters", and "November Ending".
I read Misha's collection of Haiku Triads in his book "Time to Listen" and enjoyed his work.
I will share a few verses of Rabindranath Tagore's masterpiece "Stray Birds". Rabindranath Tagore is the first Asian poet to win Nobel Prize back in 1913.
Open mic is available. Please let me know if you plan to read your work via open mic. Zoom session is only available to long-distance participants. Please let me know if you plan to attend and I will email you the zoom link.
This event will be more interactive than a typical poetry reading as all real time comments, requests, and questions from the audience are welcome and encouraged. If there is an audience request, poet will repeat the reading of the poem once to allow slower rhythm and more inner space for imagery re-creation. This interactive format intends to strike a more thoughtful balance between poet's expressions and audience's appreciation.
This event is free of charge.
Best,
Olivia
