Dreaming of a screen-free family-friendly unique escape at a fireplace this winter where you get to dabble in the intriguing and exciting art of contemporary collage whilst sipping on drinks and enjoying some nibbles to the beat of French Jazz & Cafe music?
What is contemporary collage?
Forget about primary school collage or any idea you ever had in your head of what it is, and let yourself give in to an afternoon of ULTIMATE rebellion: CUTTING UP unique art and vintage books, like old encyclopaedias, forgotten children’s books, ancient National Geographics, calendars and all sorts of inspiring paper ephemera to create your own unique contemporary collage artwork.
Think about it… you’re giving old, forgotten books and art NEW LIFE, instead of gathering up dust and regret in a lonely cupboard somewhere! Yes! It’s an afternoon of RENEWING… whatever that may mean for you!
Who is this for?
Whether you’re an artist in need of inspiration or unblocking, or desperate for a screen-free family outing with a difference, or need more ideas for a fun date, or wanting to gift someone something totally unique and fun, or just wanting to socialise with like-minded people whose curiosity got the better of them, STORYHOLDING has you COVERED!
Why is this happening?
All the way from Australia’s oldest continuing artist colony, the legendary Montsalvat, and in order to CELEBRATE Montsalvat’s 90th year of existence, STORYHOLDING is venturing out to Missing Gorilla to bring you Montsalvat TO YOU, presenting an afternoon of a COSY COLLAGE MATINéE in a beautiful, creative, space we’ll have all to ourselves.
What will we be doing?
First, I’ll take you through an introduction and share some techniques and examples with you. Then you’ll be able to socialise as you go hunt through the pages of fascinating visual and unique books for images that speak to you, which you will use to create your own contemporary collage artwork with – almost like a dream, but on paper. You’ll be surprised by how wonderful it all feels! (I often have to remind people to eat, as they get so much into the flow!)
The deeper we go into the workshop, the more freedom you’ll have, but I’ll be there to gently guide you all along the way, without being invasive.
