Are you faced with the challenging decision of parting ways with your exotic pet? We understand the complexities involved in caring for unique companions, and that's why the Exotic Pet Surrender Event is here to provide a compassionate solution.
?️Date: September 7th, 2024
?Time: 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
?️ Location: Boebel Hall
?Address: 1 University Plaza, Platteville, WI 53818
?? What to Expect:
1. Accepting a Variety of Pets: Bring your fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, exotic small mammals, and plants—no questions asked. We ask that all animals be surrendered in secure, escape-proof, enclosures.
2. Meet Animal Ambassadors: Discover fascinating facts about unique species through our knowledgeable animal ambassadors.
3. Photobooth Fun: Capture memories with a rescued pet at our photobooth—perfect for sharing your commitment to responsible pet ownership.
? Domestic pets and farm animals including but not limited to dogs, cats, rats, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, horses, pigs, and chickens are not accepted. Please contact your local Humane Society for options about these kinds of animals.
We also cannot accept Wisconsin native animals taken from the wild. Please refer to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website for more information on finding a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
Birds, reptiles, and mammals originating from outside WI must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health paper)
? Why It Matters:
No Rehoming Options: In some areas, rehoming options for exotic animals are limited, leading pet owners to consider harmful alternatives like releasing them.
Environmental Impact: Releasing pets harms both the animal and the environment. Let's work together for a responsible solution.
? Hosted by:
J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR)
In collaboration with:
University of Wisconsin-Platteville
University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes
Upper Sugar River Watershed Association
? Adoption Process:
All surrendered pets undergo a brief quarantine and evaluation period before becoming available for adoption. This may take several days or even weeks. Please check our website for adoption information.
? Sponsored by:
Festival Foods
Chemipure
Reef Aquaria Design
Jellyfish Art
? Not Accepting:
Domestic pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, and chickens. Owners of domestic animals are encouraged to explore rehoming options with local shelters or rescues.
