About this Event

There's much to be said about the tough exterior we can create for ourselves. We learn how to cope in this world using tools that we know, but what happens when those tools no longer suit us?

Exo-Skeleton is a series of work by Catherine Dvorak that outlines a period of growth, self-discovery and introspection she experienced during her years in Chicago. She addresses depression, grief and body-dysmorphia and masks these themes in bright colors, flowers, and foreboding skulls, symbolizing the false exterior she's presented throughout her life. Through her visual work, she represents the mental work that's been done to heal and what there is still to do to present herself fully, without her exo-skeleton.

Catherine is a surrealist artist that works mostly with acrylic paints on canvas. Her subjects and imagery are mostly of the human figure, nature and daydreaming. She pulls inspiration from nature and other surreal artist's such as Salvador Dahli, Frida Kahlo, and Alexandra Levasseur.

Catherine was born and raised in Lincoln, NE and moved to Chicago, IL in 2013. She is honoring her time and experience in the Windy City with a Chicago Premier Gallery showing at The Martin before moving to the West Coast to continue her career as a visual artist and actor. She has been working as a chalk artist since 2014 and began doing pet portraits and large scale commissions in 2016. Just last May, she received her Certificate in Graphic Design at the School of the Art Institute - Chicago. She plans to launch into her career as a full-time artist in LA and is kicking it off with the showing of Exo-Skeleton.
