Featuring: texts by Bertolt Brecht, translated by Tom Kuhn; music by Niels Rønsholdt and others; discussion with Lore Lixenberg, David Constantine and Tom Kuhn.
A vocal opponent of militarism and fascism, Bertolt Brecht was driven out of Germany by his opposition to the Nazi government. He found refuge in Denmark and, later, the United States. In exile he wrote plays (on themes of war, displacement and populist dictatorship) and scores of poems, many of them reflecting on what it is to be a migrant and a refugee. ‘Exile’ brings together a selection, set to music by the Danish composer Niels Rønsholdt.
The evening is dedicated to those who are still forced today by poverty, war and conflict to leave their homes.
There will be a collection on behalf of Asylum Welcome.
