The SEE Science Center offers hands-on, fun learning opportunities for diverse audiences. SEE staff have noticed that groups with disabilities visiting the museum with their professional aides often have much deeper experience utilizing museum exhibits than individuals with disabilities who visit with their families. To address this disparity, staff want to develop an exhibit facilitation guide to support family groups coming to the Science Center with family members with a wide range of disabilities - in particular limited manual dexterity/range of motion and cognitive disabilities.Volunteers will have the chance to work with SEE Staff and community partners to develop this guide. We are seeking museum professionals with exhibits curation, evaluation, design, or fabrication experience as well as those with education or facilitation experience to volunteer a half-day of brainstorming and problem-solving. Up to 20 professionals at all stages in career and all skill sets are invited and encouraged to register to join us.
While the focus of the day is service to the host museum, participants in our last Day of Service commented that they came away with new ideas that they could apply to their exhibit practice back home.
Registration at the NEMA conference is not required to join the project.
