About this Event
A conversation with curator Alexis Lowry and artist Josiah McElheny presented in conjunction with the exhibition Larry Bell: Irresponsible Iridescence on view at Judd Foundation. They will discuss Bell’s most recent two-dimensional work in relation to his ongoing concerns with glass and light. Learn more.
Larry Bell (b. 1939, Chicago, IL) is one of the most renowned and influential artists to emerge from the Los Angeles art scene of the 1960s. Known foremost for his refined surface treatment of glass and explorations of light, reflection and shadow through the material, Bell’s significant oeuvre extends from painting and works on paper to glass sculptures and furniture design. Bell’s understanding of the potential of glass and light allows him to expand visual and physical fields of perception, and his sculptures to surpass traditional bounds of the medium.
This event is free and open to the public though advance registration is encouraged. Please note priority will be given to those who have registered in advance, though advance registration does not guarantee admission once the event reaches capacity.
Alexis Lowry is Curatorial Senior Director at Hauser & Wirth. Prior to joining the gallery, she held positions at Dia Art Foundation, the David Winton Bell Gallery, and Creative Time.
