PSYCHEDELIA: A MAGICAL ODYSSEYA new exhibition by Andy R. Turcan Inspired by Gilham's adaptation of 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas', Stretcher's 'Magical Surrealism' and Freud's 'Unheimlich'
This exhibition is a journey to magical realism when a realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe. It features a vibrant hub, the home of an unidentified individual who has mysteriously vanished. The familiarity of day-to-day objects in the exhibition is curated into the unfamiliar by becoming earthly. Plants are on the rise in the quest to exterminate humankind, starting with the alienated individual. The use of psychedelic surrealism, the Unheimlich, and the Anthropocene captures this individual's inner conflict, filled with desire and paranoia about wanting to remain on earth. The audience is invited to observe the scene, engage with the exhibition using deduction to create their own mysterious, psychedelic narrative, and conclude this uncanny mystery.
