About this Event
Deutsches Haus at NYU presents the exhibition opening of Regula Rüegg's "A Light Within: Photos and Stone," a long-term photographic project that focuses on the often overlooked and subtle shifts that define everyday life. "A Light Within" also highlights the photographic depiction of Rüegg's sculptural work, rendered mostly in alabaster, and examines the surprising interplay and connection of the two mediums. The opening reception will include an artist talk with the photographer.
The exhibition will remain on view through October 29.
About "A Light Within: Photos and Stone:"
Photography is a way of noticing our surroundings. Regula Rüegg is especially interested in unspectacular events, the small shifts in everyday life, the often overlooked background of the grander things. These subtle and seemingly unpresuming themes are combined with still lifes and impressions from her travels. Recently she started her sculptural work with stone again, after a long period of concentrating on photography. The direct contact with stone – mostly alabaster – made a different creative experience and process possible. It also opened up a surprising connection between the two mediums.
About the artist:
Regula Rüegg was born in Switzerland and taught German there for many years. Since coming to New York in 2004, she has been an avid photographer. Her work has been exhibited in Switzerland, Germany, and the United States. In 2007, she started teaching at Deutsches Haus at NYU, and in 2009, she started curating the annual summer show at Deutsches Haus at NYU.
Attendance:
