What makes the body sacred? Not distance. Not perfection. But contact.
Ex Contactu is the new exhibition by Maria Gvardeitseva, where salt, wax, water, and video become fragile relics of lived emotions - love, pain, pleasure, joy, birth, betrayal, wound, and orgasm.
The title ex contactu (Latin: “from contact”) recalls Catholic relics once made holy by touch. Here, holiness comes not from canonisation, but from raw experience: wounds, intimacy, survival.
- Sculptures in sign language translate emotional words into silent grids.
- Wax votives, faceless yet familiar, echo Mediterranean devotional traditions.
- A long braid becomes a relic of continuity, care, and maternal love.
This is not a show about saints or religion. It is about us - our bodies as living relics of transformation.
Join us at AORTA Gallery and experience how emotions leave traces, melt, and return to the body.
