An exhibition of linocuts and sculptures by Jeff Perks to illustrate Michael Rosen's poem, 'John Bull'. On display in the ground floor gallery throughout Buxton Festival Fringe and continuing until 28th August (see separate event listing).Michael Rosen, the children’s author, wrote ‘John Bull’ to explain how slavery came about and how British industry was built on the back of slaves. There’s hardly a ‘stately home’ in Derbyshire that wasn’t built or embellished by the wealth produced from the slave trade.
The exhibition illustrates the poem and includes sculptures created by children from Litton primary school who worked alongside Jeff Perks to respond to the poem.
Open every day during Buxton Fringe (3rd to 21st July) from 10.30am to 5pm. Free entry.
The exhibition will continue from 23rd July to 28th August with the following opening times: Tues & Wed 10.30am to 2pm; Fri, Sat & Sun 10.30am to 4.30pm.
There will be an opportunity to meet the artist in July and Michael Rosen will be coming in August. Dates to be confirmed.
