"Space between movement" explores my interest in the profound impact of human actions on our interconnected world, considering the interconnectedness of living organisms, ecosystems, societies, and individual actions, highlighting their complex and interdependent nature. Through functional and sculptural ceramic works, I aim to express an incongruent equilibrium between flux and stillness, inviting viewers to contemplate creating their own space for reflection amidst the beauty of the natural world and the demands of human existence.
Working with recycled and white clay, I hand-build individual pieces, focusing on patterns of visual interest that are both tactile and usually practical. My works are mid to high-fired, with glazes that are often gloss - to interact with light. The colours, particularly blues and blacks, symbolize the vastness and depth of the space between movements, reflecting the calm expansiveness and mystery of the subconscious mind.
Rudyard Kipling's quote, "Of all the liars in the world, sometimes the worst are your own fears," deeply resonates with me. It underscores the complexities of human nature and the impact of fear on our emotions and quality of life. This quote inspires me to explore the unconscious patterns and energies that influence our choices, prompting introspection and reflection on the forces of the natural world and our place within it.
