We’re so excited and proud to announce a forthcoming new exhibition of Armenian needlelace, opening upstairs in the West Gallery of LMLT on Friday, August 9, 2024. This exhibition is specially curated by Lacis Museum staff members Elise Youssoufian @eliseweaves (Exhibit Curator) and Christine Krause (LMLT Manager).
In anticipation of the opening event, we are sharing a selection of pieces with you online.
Slide 2: In the heart of JHC.29875 lies a ricefield encircled by five Tree of Life motifs.
Slide 3: Generous donation by Ann Grasse, February 2024.
Slide 4: JHC.29877 Visibly damaged on the circumference, this lace made of knots and loops remains structurally resilient. It depicts growing plants with dimensionally overlapping leaves.
You’ll wonder at their endless varied forms and uniquely delicate, complex beauty. Together, we’ll dive into the mysteries of their creation and contemplate the images they convey. Perhaps you’ll even be inspired to learn to make it yourself! One way or another, we hope you’ll join us on this journey.
