About this Event

Program Length: 76 Hours (based on size of class)

Admission Requirements: This is a limited access program. There are no refunds once the course begins.

Completion Requirements: Successful demonstration of proficiency in all four high liability areas. (Defensive Tactics, First Aid, Vehicle Operations and Firearms).

Three steps to this process:

  • (1) Apply for a CJSTC #76 (evaluation that establishes eligibility from training and work history.
  • (2) Demonstrate Proficiency in the high-liability areas (defensive tactics, firearms, first aid, and vehicle operations) at a CJSTC approved training center.
  • (3) Pass the Florida State Officer Certification Examination (SOCE). You must complete all three parts within one year of issuance of CJSTC #76.

Each step must be completed before going on to the next.

This course is for previously Florida certified and out-of-state Law Enforcement Officers seeking certification as Florida certified Law Enforcement officers. You must possess a current and valid CJSTC Form #76 (Exemption-From-Training) issued by a Training Center or LE Agency. This course consists of the demonstration of proficiency in the four high liability areas: Defensive Tactics, First Aid, Vehicle Operations, Firearms as well as state examination preparation.

You have eight years from separating/retiring from your last full-time employment to qualify for this class. If you exceed this eight-year limit, you must attend a full Basic Recruit Training Academy in order to become certified in Florida.

Florida Basic Recruit Training Textbooks Volumes 1 and 2 for either Law Enforcement or Corrections will be provided.

Dress Code: Business casual (long pants & polo shirt). No open toe shoes. Tee shirts and shorts are permitted for Defensive Tactics

Advise instructor(s) of any Rx, cuts, wounds, infections, medical issues, etc. Any open wounds must be appropriately covered.

Defensive Tactics: Gym shoes with socks, shorts, long pants, sweat pants or BDU’s, plain t-shirt (no designs). You will be required to demonstrate proficiency on a minimum of 41 techniques for law enforcement and 42 for corrections officers. (CJSTC Form 6 will be provided)

Firearms: Normal range attire; long pants and a t-shirt with name (purchased separately) and we recommend that you wear a cap. Its recommended you supply your own ear and eye protection. We will supply the firearms, web gear, and ammunition. You will be required to demonstrate proficiency on the 48 round basic recruit daylight handgun course, shoot 2 consecutive or 3 out of 6 qualifying scores. You must also demonstrate proficiency in the 36 round lowlight handgun course and the 8 round daylight shotgun course. (CJSTC Form 4 will be provided, courses of fire provided)

Vehicle Operations (not required for corrections): Recommend you wear light clothing, have rain gear accessible and a cap. Please bring the following essentials; water, sunblock and a chair if available. You will be required to demonstrate proficiency on a minimum of 11 skills. (CJSTC Form 7 will be provided)

First Aid: Appropriate classroom dress. You will be required to demonstrate proficiency on a minimum of 26 techniques. (CJSTC Form 6 will be provided)

Failure to Demonstrate Proficiency: If you are unsuccessful in demonstrating proficiency in any one of High Liability Courses, you will have failed that course. If you fail one or more of the required High Liability Courses you will have the following options:

  • 1. Return and re-take the course(s) you failed in a future Equivalency of Training class. (Additional Tuition applies)
  • 2. You may attend the course(s) you failed at one of the other Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission’s certified training schools if permitted.

If you fail to demonstrate proficiency at any point during First Aid, Defensive Tactics, or Firearms, you will have failed that individual course. You will have the option to continue with the remainder of the course, but it will not change the outcome. When you return to attempt the course in the future you will be required to pass all proficiency requirements again.

The Vehicle Operations course is the exception. By C.J.S.T.C. rules, students must satisfactorily complete the Figure 8 and Threshold Braking before they can proceed to the rest of the course. If the student is unable to show proficiency in these requirements, they will not be able to proceed further thus failing the course.

State Officer Certification Examination: Once you have successfully completed the Exception-From-Training Course you will be eligible to sit for the State Officer Certification Examination (SOCE). FDLE administers the SOCE at different locations and times throughout the state. The training center you attend will assist you with registering for the SOCE or you may obtain test information on the FDLE website. It is important to remember that you only have one year, as measured from the activation of your CJSTC 76 basic recruit training exemption, to complete the EFT process by passing the SOCE.
