Calling all knights, princesses, and master builders! Join the Mayborn Museum on Friday, Spetember 19, 2025 from 6-8 PM for the Mayborn Member Preview of Castle Builder, an immersive, hands-on exhibit where children and families are transported to a kingdom of creativity—building their own castles brick by brick.Originally created by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and now part of the Mayborn’s permanent exhibit offerings, Castle Builder invites guests of all ages to step into a medieval world filled with imagination, planning, and play.
Visitors will be immersed in castle life through experiences designed specifically for children and families. Enter the kingdom’s royal castle to sit in their majesties’ thrones, view the royal decorations, and peek through the curtains into the king’s secret treasure room filled with sparkling jewels.
Age-appropriate build zones for toddlers, ages 3–6, and ages 7 and up allow children to use their newfound knowledge to create their own one-of-a-kind structures. Models of real-world castles—including Blarney, Arundel, and Neuschwanstein—offer inspiration and insight into how these massive fortresses were planned and built.
After visiting the throne room, families can explore the castle grounds, try on medieval costumes, climb a lookout tower, and meet the castle’s friendly resident dragon. And of course, no royal adventure would be complete without testing your castle’s defenses—guests can experiment with a working catapult and a 3D computer simulation to build and protect their own strongholds.
