About this Event
Are you new to conducting pre-recorded evidence hearings for child witnesses in the District Court? Or an experienced practitioner seeking to further refine your advocacy in this important area?
The District Court, in collaboration with the Bar Association, Law Society, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, is pleased to offer a fully funded training session at Newcastle District Court aimed at supporting legal practitioners to effectively conduct pre-recorded evidence hearings involving child witnesses.
The training will be delivered by:
- Her Honour Judge Patricia Lees, the Honorary Recorder of Guildford Crown Court, England
- Judge Grant Brady SC
- Judge Kate Traill
- Sharyn Hall SC
- Philip Hogan
- Rukiya Stein (witness intermediary)
Her Honour Judge Lees practised for many years at the private Bar out of 23 Essex Street Chambers, specialising in sexual assault matters, before her appointment to the bench in 2009. She is co-author of The Sexual Offences Referencer, a widely used and practical guide to sexual assault prosecutions in England & Wales. Since her appointment, Her Honour has been a tutor with the Judicial College of England & Wales and currently serves as Director of its Serious Sexual Offences Course, which delivers mandatory training to judges presiding over sexual offence and homicide matters.
Optional Dinner – Junction Hotel
After the day’s training, join us for an optional dinner at the Junction Hotel ($100 per head). The price includes a three course meal and one drink, with additional drinks available for purchase.
