About this Event

This walk will include these elements

 • bold changes to public streets: road closures and meandering narrowings
 • exemplary examples of contemporary sustainable and heritage architecture
 • past and future of public housing: Park Towers and Emerald Hill
 • refurbishment of the South Melbourne Town Hall by Peter Elliott Architecture

This walk is offered as a tribute to the late Reg Macey (1936 to 2024), citizen activist, South Melbourne Councillor and Mayor, who was strongly influenced by Jane Jacobs.

Jane's Walks

Jane’s Walk is a movement of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by writer, urbanist, and activist Jane Jacobs. Running every year on the first weekend of May, roughly coinciding with Jane's birthday, these citizen-led walks occur in cities around the world.
