Our inaugural exhibition entitled "Everything That Rises Must Converge" brings together a collection of work from a diverse group of local artists. All of the work in the show was created between December 2020 and June 2021. This exhibition is intended to celebrate the resilience of artists during the pandemic and introduce Metal Haus to the community. 100% of proceeds from the sales of art at this exhibition are kept by the artists themselves."Everything That Rises Must Converge" opens Sat, July 17th with a reception beginning at 5PM. Metal Haus is located at 2030 Mandela Parkway in West Oakland.
Visitors to the exhibition can look forward to seeing works by Hasain Rasheed, John Felix Arnold III, Christine Crook, Danielle Mourning, Alician McCarthy, Carolynn Haydu and Sicerra amongst others.
Hasain Rasheed (image of work included) specializes in portraiture using the wet plate collodion process from the 1850s. He captures images of Oakland residents with this technique. He is part of the YBCA10, a new program from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts that centers on artists as community leaders.
Danielle Mourning used the time of the pandemic to transform her entire home in San Francisco into a living art installation. She subsequently invited the public in, giving tours throughout the last 6 months.
Carolynn Haydu focused on mixed media paintings on paper and wood panel. After losing her job at Chez Panisse restaurant when it closed due to Covid, she began a series of portraits of her friends in the Bay Area restaurant business. She combines abstract collage and drawing.
Long time Oakland resident, John Felix Arnold III has a solo show, "Time as a Sanctuary" currently on display in Raleigh NC. He was recently accepted into the MFA program at Hunter College in NYC. He will be displaying portraits of medical workers he created during the last 18 months of the Covid pandemic.
