Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a vibrant, uplifting musical based on the true story of Jamie Campbell, a teenager from Sheffield who dreams of becoming a drag queen.
Set against the backdrop of a working-class community, the show follows sixteen-year-old Jamie New as he navigates the challenges of school, self-acceptance, and societal expectations.
With the unwavering support of his loving mother, Margaret, and his best friend, Pritti, Jamie dares to step into the spotlight, despite facing bullying and resistance—especially from his disapproving teacher, Miss Hedge.
Determined to attend prom in a dress, Jamie finds a mentor in Hugo, a former drag queen known as Loco Chanelle, who helps him embrace his true self and refine his stage persona. As Jamie gains confidence, he must also confront his absent father’s rejection and overcome his own fears.
Featuring an electrifying pop score by Dan Gillespie Sells and a witty, heartfelt book by Tom MacRae, the musical celebrates individuality, resilience, and the power of self expression.
Songs like “And You Don’t Even Know It”, “The Wall in My Head”, and “Out of the Darkness” capture Jamie’s journey from uncertainty to triumph. A joyous, feel-good production filled with humour, heart, and dazzling drag performances, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is an inspiring story about finding your place in the world and being unapologetically yourself.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is brought to you by Zak Scott Productions, creating unique theatre experiences for local people and making theatre accessible for all.
