About this Event
Even before lockdowns and staycations, the world was beginning to realise something of the healing and therapeutic properties of nature. In some places, it's even possible to be prescribed time with nature by your GP. But what exactly do we mean when we talk about 'nature'? And who exactly, in an age of environmental crises and broadening inequality, gets to benefit from the rapid commodification of these ideas? In Everybody Needs Beauty, Samantha Walton draws on science, history, literature and art to answer some of these difficult questions.
Samantha Walton is a writer, editor and researcher at Bath Spa University, specialising in the relationship between literature, nature and well-being. Nathan Filer is the author of The Shock of the Fall and This Book Will Change Your Mind About Mental Health. The event is presented in collaboration with Bath Spa University's Research Centre for Mental Health, Wellbeing and Creativity
