Please consider supporting the Pokes Pantry and our other incredible food security efforts: www.givecampus.com/schools/UniversityofWyoming/every-poke-nourished-2025Over 46% of all University of Wyoming students experience some level of food insecurity, and as an institution of higher education, we strive to provide our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the world. But, as one of our students put it, “Students can’t give their best effort in their schooling if they do not have adequate access to food.”
This past year has been one of exciting changes and growth for our food security program! Most notably, we moved the food pantry from a small office space in Knight Hall to the Wyoming Union, which provides a more accessible and inviting space for our students. While we were at it, we decided a rebrand was also in order, so we are now called the Pokes Food Share Pantry—or Pokes Pantry for short. Of course, our mission is still the same, and in 2024 we saw over 5,100 visits to the pantry and gave out over 36,000 pounds of food and hygiene items to visitors, departmental food cabinets, and Laramie community partners—the most impact we’ve ever seen!
Did you know we also operate the Every Poke Nourished Meal Swipe Sharing Program? Through this program, students with a meal plan can give a portion of their meal swipes to students facing food insecurity. Feedback from participants has been incredibly positive, but we unfortunately have always had more applicants than meals to distribute.
What impact does your donation have?
- $10 provides a whole day of food for one visitor at the Pokes Pantry and food cabinets.
- $20 provides one month of menstrual products for one visitor at the pantry.
- $120 provides 10 hot meals at Washakie Dining Center for students facing food insecurity.
- $500 supplements one semester of food for one visitor at the pantry.
Funds raised during this campaign will be used to purchase the food and personal items that we provide at the Pokes Pantry and departmental food cabinets, and your contribution will also support the meal swipe sharing program—helping to keep our campus community nourished by strengthening all our food security efforts at UW.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated, and we encourage you to share this campaign with friends, family, or others who would be interested in learning more and contributing. We thank you for your support in ensuring the success of our UW students, staff, and faculty by keeping them nourished!
P.S. Since the founding of the food pantry in 2020, we’ve been on a long quest to work with the Food Bank of Wyoming. We just got our first delivery from them in January. By purchasing food through the Food Bank of Wyoming, we are able to spend much less than retail price, and so the impact of your gift goes even further!
