About this Event

The dZi Foundation is honoured to invite you to a special Everest evening at the Alpine Club in London this 22 July in support of the people of Nepal as they cope with the impact of Covid.

This year is the centenary of the first Everest expedition, the reconnaissance that established the most likely route to the summit. To celebrate, the dZi Foundation has invited American climber, guide and photographer Jake Norton to talk about his fascination with the early British expeditions.

The dZi Foundation wants to bring together the largest number of UK-based
Everest climbers ever at this unique event. Jake was part of the team that discovered the resting place of George Mallory in 1999 and has visited all the pre-War camps. He’s been on eight Everest expeditions, climbing or attempting three different routes and searching for answers about the fate of Mallory and his partner Andrew Irvine.

A constant thread for Jake and dZi is the presence on all these expeditions of Sherpas, Tibetans and other ethnic groups. The dZi Foundation works with 40,000 villagers south of the Everest region, where most of the porters for the tourist industry come from. Its programmes focus on health, education and economic development and are entirely community led.

As an added bonus, the Alpine Club is hosting its own exhibition of photographs, letters and artefacts to celebrate the anniversary, which will be open on the night to those attending the lecture.

Spaces are limited at this special evening meaning all guests may only bring a plus one. Please purchase your tickets soon to secure your place.

If you are unable to make the event but would like to support community development in Nepal please visit https://dzi.org/make-a-donation/
