One of the treasures of the Anglican tradition, Evensong is a service of sung evening prayer at the close of the day that combines music with readings from scripture and ancient prayers. In Cathedrals and churches throughout the world, the practice of singing evening prayers is an ancient and longstanding practice in many Christian traditions. Evensong is one of the oldest and most beautiful traditions of Anglican Christianity. Archbishop Thomas Cranmer created the service for the first Book of Common Prayer in 1549 by combining the monastic evening offices of Vespers and Compline. Today Choral Evensong is a treasure among Christian liturgies and a jewel of the Anglican choral tradition. At evensong, most of the service is sung by the choir on behalf of those present. One can approach this service as one likes as there is little requirement for active participation. Thank you for worshipping with us!
