About this Event
The tour begins at approximately 5:30pm in Antiquarian Hall and will conclude promptly at 6:30pm. Limited to 15 participants, the tour is an opportunity to meet AAS staff who facilitate community partnerships with local colleges. Participants will learn about the history of AAS, see the range of materials and communities documented in the library's collections, and tour the physical spaces that include a conservation lab and our classroom. The tour will be led by John Garcia, AAS director of scholarly programs and partnerships, who works as a liaison between the library and faculty and students based in the Worcester area.
While not required, participants are warmly invited to attend an evening lecture which will happen at 7pm, shortly after the tour concludes. The lecture is entitled "The Trials of Madame Restell: Nineteenth-Century America's Most Infamous Female Physician and the Campaign to Make Abortion a Crime," featuring historian Nicholas Syrett. For more about the lecture, see the following page on the AAS website: https://www.americanantiquarian.org/node/12815
