About the Artists
Evelyn Song, violin
Described by The Baltimore Sun as “clearly gifted” and having “expressive talent,” violinist Evelyn Song is loved by audiences for her authenticity in music-making. She finds great joy in bringing the concert hall experience to diverse audiences, wherever they are. During her two years at the New England Conservatory of Music, she was twice awarded both the Community Fellowship and the Musical Storytelling Fellowship of the school’s Community Performances and Partnerships Program, through which she received rigorous training in community engagement work. She has given numerous themed recitals with original storytelling at retirement homes and the National Institutes of Health, and interwoven music with the reading of children’s books at schools.
Most recently, Evelyn was a featured artist in two BelCanto Ensemble concerts in San Diego. As a Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras alumna, she performed as a soloist in the 75th-anniversary celebration concert at the Music Center at Strathmore. She also had the honor of playing the Bruch Double Concerto for Violin and Viola with Jonathan Carney and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop. Other solo appearances have taken her to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, the National Gallery of Art, and the Spanish Ambassador’s residence in Washington, D.C.
Evelyn earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as a Minor in Music Theory, from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Ivan Zenaty and Ilya Kaler, and received a Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Ayano Ninomiya. Away from the violin, Evelyn is an avid baker who makes killer apple pie.
Annabelle Song, piano
Annabelle Song received her Bachelor of Science in molecular and cellular biology from Johns Hopkins University, where she was a research assistant in Dr. Xin Chen’s epigenetics lab for three years. She recently completed the post-baccalaureate fellowship program at the National Institutes of Health, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Reformed Theological Seminary. In addition to taking an interest in science and theology, Annabelle enjoys collaborating with her older sister, Evelyn. The duo performs frequently at local retirement homes and is known as “The Song Sisters.”
When she is not studying or playing the piano, you can often find her with her nose in a book. Annabelle is a fierce reader and has published book reviews on her website, VoraciousBookworms.com, which is named after her nickname.
